What an awesomely sexy read!
If you like your heroes to be domineering in the most delicious way Dawn Ryder has the man for you.
Tarak Nektosha is a 'my way or the highway' man. He has earned his wealth through extremely hard work. The difficulties he has faced in his life have only served to make him more intense and focused. When he meets Sabra Donovan he really doesn't want to be drawn to her. He wants to get on, get off and get out. Women are only there to sate his physical needs and there really is no other use for them and they cannot be trusted.
Sabra, also, has no intention of getting involved with Tarak. Not only does he have a use her and lose her attitude towards the female sex, but even worse... he's her boss!
The two are absolutely drawn together in a scorchingly hot way. Tarak pulls out all the stops to get to Sabra and feels an overwhelming need to possess her. Though they both fight the attraction you have to know that they are going to give in.
And boy, do they.
Over and over... and it is scrumptious.
I feel that both character's personalities and motivations were deftly explored in such a way that you really understood what they felt and the actions they took.
If I had one smallest wish, it would be that the ending wouldn't have come so quickly. I felt that there could have been a little more interaction between Tarak and Sabra once they came to the complete realization of what their relationship was. A more involved epilogue would have suited this story nicely.
Overall, a great couple hours of mind vacation with two strong willed people who were great fun to observe as they fought the inevitable.
I can only hope that there will be a follow up book as there were several other highly intriguing characters that I wouldn't mind seeing more of.

Sabra & Tarak

Out of Bounds was an enjoyable read and the first book that I have read by Dawn Ryder. There's plenty of steamy sexiness and the story is a good one. One of the things that I enjoyed the most about this story is the fact that Sabra is no shy, demure, blushing woman who doesn't know her own mind. Despite wanting to move forward with her career, Sabra recognized that her attraction to Tarak could lead to something even more fulfilling. Although both Tarak and Sabra know that office romances, especially between employer and employee are often disastrous they decide to take a risk. The possible negative consequences for Sabra leads to Tarak offering Sabra a compromise that she just couldn't turn down.

There were some parts of the book that seemed a little disjointed and some scenes that I just didn't like. There were some references to Tarak's Apache heritage that I didn't particularly like and thought could have been left out all together. For example, Sabra tells Tarak "The first time I saw you, I thought you should be wearing a headband, like your ancestors." As well as when Sabra says that Tarak looks "like an echo from the last century." Now I know that was supposed to be her letting Tarak know how attractive he is to her, but that just didn't work for me. I half expected her to ask him to don a loin cloth and hold a tomahawk. That was just not sexy.

The secondary characters in Out of Bounds, namely Celeste and Nartan are interesting and are surely being set up for book 2. Celeste is Sabra's best friend who has survived an awful marriage and is gun shy when it comes to men, especially men with money. While Nartan is Tarak's best friend who will surely provide a challenge for the cautious Celeste. I will definitely be looking for their story down the line.

Sabra has just started working for the Nektosha company. She started in a little cubicle on the lower floors, but she's planning on one day working upstairs with the big guys.
Now it's the weekend and she's supposed to be having a good time at the beach with her boyfriend, but it seems he's having a good time with a friend of theirs.
Not all too sad about the break-up, she's about to leave for home, when her work-phone rings.
She's being summoned to a fancy hotel to her company's unveiling of the new series of Off-Road vehicles. Not an event such a low-level employee would normally be invited to, BUT all the VPs are stranded in Alaska and it's up to her to represent the company.

But of course everything is not as easy as it could be. Tarak has some left-over hurt from his past and Sabra is not sure if she's ready to fall for and maybe even submit to a guy like Tarak.

Could there be a future for Sabra & Tarak?
Will they get their HEA?
Or will everybody die at the end? ☺☺☺
Will there be a Cliffhanger? ☺☺☺

I REALLY ENJOYED READING THE BOOK!!!

The story was really very sexy and romantic and interesting. BUT I had a few problems with it too.
I always had the feeling that the book used to be 150 pages longer, and someone cut out most of it - or at least it SHOULD'VE been 100 pages longer. It just felt too short. I would've given 5 Stars if there would've have been a bit MORE - what MORE exactly, I don't really know, but I just needed a bit more ☺

Which doesn't make the story bad, not at all. I really loved it.
Tarak is totally different from other book heroes. I loved him!
And Sabra too. She's really sweet and she's fighting for what she wants.

I had a few problems understanding the whole two-hundred-thousand-dollar idea. That was probably a bit too complicated for me...I just didn't understand why and what the whole purpose of that was ☺
But it didn't bother me all that much.

One thing about the writing that bothered me a bit....the characters always CURLED THEIR LIPS - Dawn really makes them do that a lot. And I really can't picture that in my mind. When I try to picture it, it looks like some kind of wild animal about to bark or bite...And that's not really what Dawn meant... she means they're about to smile or laugh...well - it's just me probably, but I didn't like that.

But - all ^that^ aside - I really loved the story!!!

OUT OF BOUNDS was a really erotic tale of two people finally finding their other half ....
Taking us all the way from beautiful Southern California to the breathtaking Alaskan wilderness.

The next book in the series FILTHY RICH - coming February 2015 - will be about Sabra's best friend Celeste and Tarak's 'brother' Nartan.
And poor Nartan....He'll have his hands full with Celeste ☺

Saved Me

I really love to just teach myself things outside of class because some professors just cannot teach no matter how smart they are. By actually reading through the book, doing examples, and then doing the problems in my own book assigned by the professor, I was able to do extremely well on homeworks and tests. I also understand it all, which to me is much more important. Now I plan on getting a For Dummies book whenever I can just because it teaches so well at the basic and even deeper level.

Dated, but still an excellent introduction

The book has a simple two-part message. The first half is a discussion of the idea of luck versus chance, with illustrations mostly from gambling games. This is a deeper issue than many people (including people well-versed in the quantitative theory of probability) realize. It also happens to be one that troubles a lot of intelligent people who are not comfortable with Statistics, despite repeated attempts to learn the subject. I don't know of any other extended discussion of this quality done at an elementary level anyone can follow.

The second half does a similarly thorough job of moving from the mathematics of probability to the practice of statistics. The examples are drawn from everyday life or current events. This is statistics as it should be taught, as a method of reasoning grounded in probability theory and careful consideration of data, rather than a cookbook of computer commands or bunch of theorems. A lot of books try to do this, but many academically-trained statisticians lack the long practical experience and effortless mastery this author brings to the table (he had the advantage of learning Statistics before that required years of advanced pure mathematics).

Unfortunately, the book is dated without significant alteration from the 1939 version. The examples seem old-fashioned, and some may not even be comprehensible to younger readers. As Rudolf Dankwort noted, it does not cover game theory, and its advice on poker is probabilistic only. It also does not cover nonparametric statistics, Bayesian methods or computers.

Therefore, I recommend this book mostly as an antidote to a bad statistics education for intelligent people. It will gently lay the groundwork you may have missed, so that the things you did learn will make more sense. It could also be used as a primer so that you can attack a conventional statistics book with a more solid foundation.

very elementary my dear watson ...

This is a very ellementary, almost jejune text. It is strictly for the non-mathematical & even non-logical! very few equations & full of obvious observations. Furthermore, it was originally written in 1939, before the advent of game theory, which it painfully lacks. The chapters on poker are also more or less useless since the element of bluffing is almost ignored. Game thoery books are a lot more fun. But for the totally unscientific (in fact, for those with a distinctly superstitious bent), this book may well be worthwhile, like some of Sagan's general-reader stuff.

Sweet Love Story

Nicky Everson, who is suffering abuse at the hands of his boyfriend, finds himself reaching out to his big brother's new work partner, Troy Summers, for help after yet another beating. Troy offers his help without question because Nicky is his partner's baby brother, and because he's incredibly attracted and drawn to the man. Troy allows Nicky to move in with him temporarily until he can get his life together, but in the process the two men explore the feelings they're quickly developing for one another.

I really enjoyed this book. Troy and Nicky were adorable and I could feel the deep care and love they felt for each other. Nicky's brother, Jamie, annoyed me to no end when he absolutely refused to allow Nicky to grow up and think for himself. I was so glad when Troy finally opened his eyes to his treatment of Nicky.

There were some typos here and there, but overall Picture Me Perfect was a great love story that I wouldn't mind reading again in the future.

Hollywood producer Lynda Obst (Flashdance, Sleepless in Seattle) recounts her own battles in Hollywood's trenches--from her beginnings as a journalist to her current role as the maker and breaker of careers. Like other "classic" Hollywood books--Hollywood Babylon by Kenneth Anger and You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again by Julia Phillips--Hello, He Lied is saturated with sleaze and proves, once again, that most of Tinseltown's stars are seriously lacking in the upstairs department.

In her first book, movie producer and former New York Times Magazine editor Obst creates a peculiarly Hollywood kind of hybrid, a memoir/survival guide that describes what it's really like to get a movie made while still managing to say something nice?or at least benevolently neutral?about everybody in power. Obst left a dream job at the good gray Times to become a "development girl" (scouting material and overseeing script writes) for hyper-ambitious studio head Peter Guber. From Guber she learned that success means never going to a meeting (or doing anything) without a strategy. Her strategy here is to portray herself at work, describing how she has learned to handle tough situations and tough people. Thus, supermogul David Geffen, who once mused during a meeting that she should consider collagen shots, is praised for his personal manager-like interest in his employees' lives. Obst distills her experience into a coda for survival. She knows not to buck major trends ("Ride the Horse in the Direction Its Going," reads one chapter title). She knows when to put projects on the back burner ("Putting It on the Roof"). Above all, she understands the "Tao of Power," as explained in a chapter that reads like a contemporary Hollywood version of The Art of War: "The secret that all powerful people know is that no one else gives you power.... With power, there is no permission to be granted. Permission must be seized." At times, the writing is awkward: "The latent energy that makes imploding friendships so dangerous is the fact they are playlets of this familial struggle." But there are gems in the gravel. Obst's rundown of the difference between an arty "fuzzy girl" as opposed to an Armani-wearing "crisp girl" is worth the price of admission. Photos not seen by PW.

The title reveals Obst's success producing Hollywood films?part adolescent aggression (Hey, you idiot!) and part practical philosophy (lies can be truths). Writing in a breezy, readable style, she frankly steps through the ups and downs of her "high-stakes career" producing Sleepless in Seattle, Flashdance, and The Fisher King. Many bulleted lists ("tips on moguls") punctuate chapters titled "Never Go to a Meeting Without a Strategy," "The Tao of Power," and "My New Best Friend." And she does not shrink from telling a story about herself, particularly if it flatters one of her many powerful mentors. Obviously a sharp, well-read, and industrious worker, Obst has produced a book that is unfortunately short on details about the art of producing and long on sensible advice useful no matter what career you pursue. Primarily for those into Hollywood "wisdom," this book also substitutes as a popular psychology lesson in interpersonal politics. For larger public libraries and where there is demand.?Jane E. Interesting at first...

There are many reasons you might want to read this book, and it serves some needs well. I bought a used copy and it was apparent that others had lost interest partway through.
You think you want to be a Hollywood producer? This book might be for you: the author worked her way up partway (she was, after all, listed as a producer on Interstellar) and has some amusing examples of conversations with footnotes as to the true motives behind the words. She also provides useful rules for various aspects of the business. In fact, these may be the true value of this work, as these rules are applicable well beyond the craziness of Hollywood. She also provides useful information for women in business, where there is plenty of room for improvement. Also in academe.
If you are reading this for insights into individuals, it may be less useful, as it was published in 1996.
If you are a wannabe writer, director, agent or studio mogul, reading this or anything else will not help.
Towards the end it gets a bit self-serving, as others have noted.

Lynda Obst's book is entertaining, thoughtful and a solid introduction to Hollywood culture

Well written, entertaining and easy to read, this book is a fun exposition of Hollywood culture, politics and the personalities involved. Despite not really being in the Hollywood business, I found this informative and something I just had to finish. Highly recommended.
