About the Author
Robert J. Sharer is Shoemaker Professor in Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and Curator of the American Section at the University of Pennsylvania Museum. He has published over 100 scholarly articles, and several monographs reporting the results of his archaeological research, including a three-volume Chalchuapa report (1978), and a one-volume Verapaz report (1987). He is general editor of the Quirigua Reports, with four volumes published (1979, 1983, 1993, and 2007), and general editor of the forthcoming Early Classic Copan Acropolis Reports. He has co-edited five books, including Regional Perspectives on the Olmec (1989) and Understanding Early Classic Copán (2004), and is the author of Quirigua: A Classic Maya Center and Its Sculpture (1990), Everyday Life in Maya Civilization (1996), and three editions of The Ancient Maya, the most recent a completely revised work in collaboration with Loa P. Traxler.

Wendy Ashmore is Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Riverside. Her research centers on settlement patterns, household archaeology, gender, and ancient space and place in southeastern Mesoamerica. Publications include Settlement Archaeology at Quiriguá, Guatemala (University of Pennsylvania Museum, 2007), and edited volumes on Lowland Maya Settlement Patterns (New Mexico, 1981), Household and Community in the Mesoamerican Past (with R. R. Wilk, New Mexico, 1988), Archaeologies of Landscape: Contemporary Approaches (with A. B. Knapp, Blackwell, 1999), and Integrating the Diversity of 21st-Century Anthropology: The Life and Intellectual Legacies of Susan Kent (with M.-A. Dobres, S. M. Nelson, and A. Rosen, American Anthropological Association, 2006), together with numerous articles and book chapters on these and related topics.

Robinson Crusoe wanted to be a sailor. His parents did not want him to become a sailor. However, he went on his first adventure on a friend's ship. After that he was on other ships. On his last ship it almost was the last one because the ship turned over. Only he survived. He swam to an island and lived there alone for many years. On the island there are people who were cannibals. This story is about Crusoe's adventure of surviving on the island.

I give the book four out of five stars. What I like about the book is that it is so interesting. The adventure and the characters are amazing. A great work of art by the C. Marcvs Idevs.

I have read many books on the subject of regeneration and renewal of Western Civilization, this book is thought provoking and a great addition to any racially aware europid book collector of our time. Though he does little in explaining how such a civilization would be achieved, the picture he paints of a future for all European people and their descendents is one I would gladly fight and die for. Give me liberty or give me death, I would rather die standing on my feet, then on my knees as a coward, to honor my brothers, open your eyes, join those who can see.

An Intro Text Worthy of the Golden Age of Astronomy

It's difficult to condense so much information into just six-hundred pages. It's even more difficult to make such a text accessible, but Pasachoff and Filippenko have done just that.

A grand mix of science and history, augmented by easy-to-understand diagrams and self-study sections, this is a remarkably complete survey of the great and most pertinent developments in modern astronomy. It's an even better guide for especially curious students, as the text provides great direction for further reading.

The first sections on the nature of science and pseudo-science should be required reading for everyone.

Absolutely recommended for students and citizen-scientists alike.

Absolutely Wonderful Astronomy Work

I bought this Book to use in conjunction with Professor Alex Filippenko's Great Courses "Understanding the Universe, An Introduction to Astronomy", It is a great teaching and reference work. I highly recommend it, as well as the lecture series for anyone interested in Astronomy!
"Understanding the Universe" consists of 96 lectures on 16 CD's. Probably the best course I have ever taken.
The book is co-authored by Prof. Filippenko, who is a wonderful lecturer and teacher!

the best book on (macro)economics I've ever read !

Ten years ago, by coincidence, I saw this book. I bought it, and since then I have recommended it to all my colleagues.
At that time, the book was new and contained all the most recent developments in the journals (it ends with hysteresis - well explained and at that moment a brand new topic in the journals).
But what I find more important is that this is the only book I read where all those journal-stuff was fitted into a coherent frame-work; for the first time I really understood what macro-economics (and their micro foundations) was all about.
Up till then, I had seen only fragmented pieces of macro theory and here these authors came with a coherent view, which would have taken myself years to fit together, and I was sorry that this was not the handbook I had at university.
I don't follow-up this field anymore, and the book has not been updated anymore since then (a pity I think) but I write this review out of gratitute for the insights the authors gave me: I finally realized that in this book all the pieces were fitted together and allowed me to really understand macro-economics.
Personally, I can only recommend it.

A book on relevant economic theory

One of the best macroeconomics textbooks in the market.First of all it contains an excellent chronological survey of models. But above all, its approach based on wage bargain and mark-up pricing has great relevance in terms of real world phenomena, in contrast to most mecroeconomic textbooks based in the unrealistic competitive model. The main contribution is to set an scenario for a feasible and intelligent social negotiation and for economic policy, instead of definitive "natural" outcomes of economic performance. I hope the authors keep on updating this book

"REFRESHING, ENJOYABLE AND INSPIRING!"

When my children were young, I searched for books that contained Bible stories that they can understand. As a religion teacher for children in grades one through four, I continued my search for the same reasons. I wish at that time that I was able to find one interesting for young readers. "THE WONDER BOOK OF BIBLE STORIES" is the book I searched for. I read some of the stories to special needs children, and it attracted their attention. They were interested, curious, and many of the stories were open for discussion. The children found wonderful messages pertaining to the different stories. I highly recommend this delightful book to parents with young children, and religion teachers. Each story is easy to read, and understand. The author penned beautiful, inspiring stories that encourage young children to read, and share their point of views.

Not Biblicaly accurate

Read the first book about Adam and Eve they did not build a rock tower for their forgiveness of sins. Did not read any more. Where is creation? Should be before Adam and Eve. Creation in itself shows the magnitude of GOD. I realized it is geared to young readers but don't distort GOD's word.

This book is very inspiring and understanding for my eight year old daughter.
She understand the Bible much better after reading the stories. It keepes her busy asking
questions. I enjoyed reading it myself. I recommend this book to parents with young children
especially new converts in Christ Jesus. For it will help both parents and children to have a greater knowledge of the stories illustrated in the Bible.

Big, heavy and beautiful.

Gorgeous book with excellent reproductions of a vast number of botanical artworks with well-written summaries of each piece under each color reproduction. Artworks include old and new, drawing, painting, watercolor, engraving and sculpture as well as radiologic and scanning microscopy images. A wonderful volume.

Best of Botanical Art

My Christmas gift to myself is this glorious compilation of botanical art, all 350 pages of brilliant renderings of the plants of the world. I judged this book by its cover, it was so beautiful I wanted it for the art piece alone. The idea to pull together the oldest of illustrations of plant life to the newest technology renderings from artists, photographers, illustrators and scientists all in one volume was bold. The enormity of the work to select and arrange these is inspiring.

The introduction by Dr. James Compton, Botanist and plant collector, narrates the world wide historical contribution of botanical artistry which benefits all of us today.

Paging on into the heart of the book I find a detailed illustration of a tree stump and its roots alongside a digital light micrograph of a pine branch. The placement of a gauche watercolor of a lily with an X-ray rendition of same is a mind expanding visual experience. This feast for the eyes would be enough but the details of what you are seeing is accompanied by a fascinating and relatable description. Each artist is identified (except for the anonymous works) describing their contribution to the knowledge of plants we all benefit from today.

Just when I thought it couldn’t be more wonderful I come to the 10 page, 4 column botanical art timeline. Here I walk through the horticultural history documenting the knowledge of plants. I love this book, I have always loved botanical art and now with this in my hands I have the world’s best.
